Your Smartcard - Decoders

Your Smartcard

The Smartcard looks similar to a credit card and is inserted into the Decoder. A valid Smartcard entitles the customer to listen and view all the services they have subscribed to. The customer’s Personal Identification Number (PIN) and subscription details are stored in the Smartcard.

The latest smartcards now come with the fraud eliminating Secure Silicone. These would be the 1110/1131, HD PVR devices. Secure silicon chip set is embedded in the decoder. The initial activation marries the smart card to the decoder.

How Secure Silicon security works?

  • A specific smart card and decoder function as a unit.
  • You will only be able to use the decoder with the smart card to which it is paired, usually the initial decoder that was loaded onto the system with the smart card.
  • Other smart cards will not function on a paired decoder.
  • All smart cards and decoders that are already paired cannot be used independently; otherwise an E30 error message will be displayed.
  • Your DSD1110/1131 MUST be accompanied by the smart card that it is paired to. They must be used as a unit and cannot be separated from each other. Therefore for holiday homes and holiday viewing the customer has to take both the decoder and smartcard.
